Review: Nate Kenyon’s Sparrow Rock grips readers from the very beginning and throws them into the mix of this post-apocalyptic scene with six teenagers, who supposedly lucked out being in a bomb shelter when the world exploded around them. The horror is spine-tingling and creepy with deadly engineered insects rising out of the ash. Sparrow Rock is definitely not for the faint of heart. Told through Pete’s view point, the novels entwines the reader into the conspiracy of why this is happening to these teenagers. The novel is reminiscent of Stephen King’s work as well as a psychological play on par with Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Mr. Kenyon had me at the very beginning of the novel, and I had a hard time putting it down from the first sentence on. At times, Sparrow Rock bordered upon the gross and disgusting, and I loved every minute of it. It’s definitely a horror novel worth reading, and I look forward to reading more of Mr. Kenyon’s work in the future.

I read the first bit through DearReader.com when they featured the book, and I was hooked. I just had to buy it on my Kindle and get reading.
